OVERVIEW
High Performance Hockey was established for the specific development of hockey players. Each of our program options combine treadmill skating, plyometrics, agility/speed/quickness training and hockey specific skill development sessions. While participating in HPH, players will be exposed to knowledgeable training staff dedicated to education in a wide array of techniques and hockey specific concepts. If you are serious about developing your skills and preparing yourself for the next level, High Performance Hockey is your solution.
PROGRAM COMPONENTS
Each of High Performance Hockey’s programs are developed to provide significant gains in speed, strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and hockey specific skill. All programs include:
Physical Testing – Pre and post NHL Combine like testing allows knowledgeable instructors to establish individual baselines to personalize your program and track results
Skate Treadmill Training – each of these sessions focuse on the development of skating mechanics, speed, quickness and conditioning. Each of our skating treadmill sessions center around increasing on-ice speed through increased development of stride length and stride frequency. Giving each player an opportunity to wear their skates, the increased resistance of the ice creates stronger knee drive while higher elevations promote a longer, powerful leg extension. The treadmill sessions will develop a more technically sound player with breakaway speed
Strength Training – athletes will utilize dynamic lifting techniques to build strength while at the same time working on balance, flexibility and core development specific to the movements and muscles associated with hockey. Depending on age and ability, athletes will receive personalized programs introducing them to the proper techniques and fundamentals associated with strength training. As players advance through the programs, each will learn to utilize various lifting techniques to build strength while at the same time working on balance, flexibility and core development specific to the movements and muscles associated with hockey.
Flexibility / Core Training / Balance – as part of our program, athletes will be exposed to flexibility training for decreased muscle soreness and injury prevention. Personalized programs will also include components which will increase balance and body control on ice.
Plyometrics – these sessions focus on providing explosive power and increased body awareness which will translate into on-ice success. A proper mixture of challenging floor patterns to increase foot speed and fast-twitch muscle fibers with ground based explosive box, hurdle and block jumps for lateral and vertical power will develop the ability to outskate, outmaneuver and outperform any opponent.
Quickness / Agility / Speed Training – acceleration, deceleration, positioning and footspeed in a small area are all keys to succeeding at the next level. Emphasizing each of these aspects in a wide range of drills including ladders, cones, obstacle courses and mirror competitions, all of our athletes will learn to anticipate, react and respond before the competition can think.
Skill Specific Training – utilizing a 25’ x 15’ synthetic ice sheet manufactured by Viking Ice®, athletes will be exposed to shooting and stickhandling programs developing quick, accurate shots and smooth, soft hands. Learning how to maintain body positioning through a variety of shot techniques as well as how to deke or fake a shot without losing control will create power, accuracy and most important, confidence in any player.
