RYAN WILSON

A 16 year-old who loves ice hockey and who plays both center and wing on the ice, Ryan often flies under the radar at Summit because he’s so darn quiet!  But his work ethic is undeniable – despite having to travel by public transportation from his home in Philadelphia, he is often at the gym three days a week and, despite his quiet nature, approaches each session with a workmanlike effort and a strong desire to improve his on-ice performance!  A student at Del Val Friends, Ryan came to Summit with some nagging leg issues in July of 2008, but with the help of Coach Gorman he developed a sound strength regimen and has since added some new orthotics and now is skating great and handling up to 400 lbs. on the leg press and close to 200 lbs. on hip flexion!  Because his school doesn’t have a hockey team, Ryan competes for North Catholic’s squad in addition to his club team.  Don’t expect him to talk your ear off, but please do salute him as Summit’s Male Athlete of the Month for November 2009!!!

AMELIE YEAGER

Sophomore lacrosse player Amelie Yeager is December’s female athlete of the month. The 15 year old came to Summit in September with a goal of earning a spot on the defending state champion Radnor High girls varsity lacrosse team. Considering that squad lost three starters, she knew Summit gave her the best chance of achieving her goal. Since September Amelie has pushed herself in every session to get better and it’s starting to show. For example in 3 months Amelie was able to increase her bench press by 30 pounds. This spring when it counts the midfielder is definitely giving herself the best chance to realize her goal. Summit would like to recognize Amelie for her hard work and give her the title, for the next 30 days, of athlete of the month.
